A rich chocolate layer cake frosted to resemble a tree trunk, topped with a fondant sloth peacefully napping amid edible leaves.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Cocoa powder
- 1 cup Butter
- 2 cups Sugar
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 4 Eggs
- 2 tsp Baking powder
- 1 cup Milk
- Chocolate ganache (for frosting)
- Fondant (for sloth and leaves)
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and prepare two round cake pans.
- Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, then mix in eggs and vanilla.
- Add dry ingredients (flour, cocoa, baking powder) alternately with milk until smooth.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, cool completely.
- Frost with chocolate ganache, using a spatula to create bark-like texture on the sides.
- Sculpt a sloth from fondant—shape the body, arms, and head, and add face details with edible paint or melted chocolate.
- Place the sloth on top, add fondant leaves, and chill before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the cake is completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
- Use high-quality cocoa powder for a richer flavor.
- Experiment with different colors of fondant for leaves.
