Description

A glossy, restaurant-style Asian sauce with the perfect balance of heat, sweetness, and umami.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1/4 cup honey or brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons chili garlic sauce
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Green onions & sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and chili garlic sauce.
  2. Add garlic, ginger, and sesame oil; whisk to combine.
  3. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  4. Stir occasionally and let reduce slightly for 10–12 minutes.
  5. Mix cornstarch with water and whisk into the sauce.
  6. Simmer 2–3 minutes until thick, glossy, and spoon-coating.
  7. Remove from heat and cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust the level of chili garlic sauce to increase or decrease heat.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
