Description

A warmly spiced, moist gingerbread loaf topped with silky brown butter cream cheese frosting — pure holiday comfort.

Ingredients

  • Molasses (½ cup)
  • Unsalted butter (½ cup, browned and divided)
  • Cream cheese (4 oz, softened)
  • Brown sugar (½ cup)
  • All-purpose flour (1½ cups)
  • Baking soda (1 tsp)
  • Ground ginger (1½ tsp)
  • Cinnamon (1 tsp)
  • Cloves (¼ tsp)
  • Salt (¼ tsp)
  • Egg (1 large)
  • Milk (½ cup)
  • Powdered sugar (1½ cups, for frosting)
  • Vanilla extract (1 tsp)

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter: Melt butter over medium heat until golden and nutty; cool slightly.
  2. Mix wet ingredients: Whisk together molasses, brown sugar, egg, milk, and half of the browned butter.
  3. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  4. Blend and bake: Combine wet and dry mixtures; pour into a greased loaf pan and bake 45–50 minutes. Cool completely.
  5. Make frosting: Beat cream cheese with remaining brown butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth and fluffy.
  6. Frost generously: Spread thick frosting over cooled loaf, creating soft swirls on top.
  7. Slice and enjoy: Serve at room temperature with a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure the loaf is completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • This loaf can be frozen for up to 2 months; thaw before serving.
