- 2 sheets Puff pastry
- 4 Egg yolks
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 4 Egg whites
- 2 cups Whole milk
- 2 tbsp Cornstarch
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 1/2 cup Powdered sugar (for meringue)
- 1/2 cup Dark chocolate (melted for drizzle)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake puff pastry sheets until golden and crisp; let cool.
- For custard: heat milk and vanilla in a saucepan. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch. Slowly temper the egg mixture with the hot milk, then cook until thickened. Stir in butter and chill slightly.
- Layer the custard between two sheets of baked puff pastry.
- Beat egg whites with sugar until glossy stiff peaks form; spread over the top of the pastry.
- Toast the meringue with a kitchen torch or under the broiler until golden.
- Drizzle melted chocolate across the top.
- Chill to set before slicing into squares.
