Description
A whole onion transforms into a melt-in-your-mouth, buttery, spice-infused side dish that lives up to the hype.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 Large yellow onions
- 4 tablespoons Butter
- 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon Garlic seasoning
- 1 teaspoon Paprika or chili flakes
- 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- Optional: broth or water (for extra juices)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (205°C) and peel the onions, trimming the root slightly so they sit flat.
- Cut a deep cross into the top of each onion without cutting through the bottom.
- Place the onions in foil or a small baking dish; stuff butter into the center cuts.
- Sprinkle generously with Cajun seasoning, garlic seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Add a small splash of broth or water around the onions for steaming.
- Wrap tightly with foil and bake until ultra-tender and caramelized, about 1 hour.
- Unwrap carefully and baste onions with the buttery pan juices before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, increase the amount of Cajun seasoning or add more chili flakes.
- Ensure the onions are of similar size for even cooking.
- Serve as a side dish or as a topping for grilled meats.
